To really understand God and Christianity, you have to go back, way back, to the beginning, where it all started. 6000 years ago. Yes, I know that Evolution is supposedly the valid theory, and if you believe that, then that is one major thing I pray the Lord shows you to be untrue. Because, well, it is.
Now, if you're still reading, it's not true because GOD created the world, and, following the book that He also made, the timeline adds up to around 6000 years every time. There's no question about it. It's just a matter of believing and accepting God Himself. After that, believing the things of God over the things of this world should come easy.
If you don't know the story of the Creation, let me run you through it.
In the beginning was God. That's it. Then He created the heavens, and the earth. Genesis 1 says, "And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep." But God said "Let there be light." and so on, until the world was there. He'd just spoken, and it appeared. After that He made land, water, outer space, animals, and the first man and woman.
Now, God gave them ONE single instruction. They lived in the garden of Eden, a perfect place, where they could do anything they wanted, except eat from what was called the 'tree of knowledge of good and evil.' I don't think it's hard to guess what they did. Satan, who is the enemy of God, the one who's life's mission it is to turn everyone's hearts away from God, disguised as a snake, showed up and led them astray, to where they purposely disobeyed God, the one who had created them.
That was the first SIN, and since then, the world has fallen apart. Many people blame God for the suffering in this world, but actually, we did it. Yes, Adam and Eve started it, but we sin every day, and it's the same thing. And God did warn them. When He made them and put them in the garden, he said very plainly, "You are free to eat from any tree in the garden; but you must not eat from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, for when you eat from it you will surely die.”
When we sin, it is directly against God, even if it isn't directed to Him. Sin is anything that He said was wrong. God gave Moses ten laws, called the ten commandments:
You shall have no other gods before Me.
You shall not make idols.
You shall not take the name of the LORD your God in vain.
Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy.
Honor your father and your mother.
You shall not murder.
You shall not commit adultery.
You shall not steal.
You shall not bear false witness against your neighbor.
You shall not covet.
If you have done ANY of those, even one, you have sinned, and, according to God, "The wages of sin is death" not just physical death, as will happen to everybody, but spiritual death, separation from God eternally. And if you've sinned, you fall into that category. Actually, everyone does. And death is the punishment. God does not want anyone to be separated from Him. We are His children, and He loves us. But He is perfect. So how can we achieve perfection, when we are never going to be perfect? It makes sense if you really think about it. It would be like someone who has committed a huge crime standing before a judge, and, instead of the judge sending him to jail, he just lets him go. That makes no sense, does it? Well, that's God. He's the judge, and one day, we are all going to stand before Him, as He stands there, knowing all of our sins. Will He just let us go? No. It sounds hopeless, doesn't it?We are trapped by our own sin, and separated from God, with no way out.
But there is one way.....
