From the moment you are born, you are on a journey.  You are told that you are the master of your own destiny, and in charge of the direction and course of your own life. Yet this is not accurate.

You are not in complete control, God is.  If you have ever felt as though something is missing in your life, despite all the money, the best looking spouse, the finest restaurants, the smartest, most athletic kids, or being the most popular employee, it's because there is something missing.

From the moment your heart starts beating, it has triggered a "homing beacon". Your only job is to listen to it and find your way back to God.  Unfortunately, you ignore it due to the pursuit of self fulfillment, which we are all told is the goal of life.  This is in direct opposition to the truth.  You are not doing what you were designed to do.  Money and certain material goods may be necessary in this life, however the ungodly pursuit of these earthly pleasures, all while ignoring your "homing beacon", is what is giving you the feeling of inadequacy, or the, "Is this all there is?" mentality.

This is not shocking due to the fact that you are told from the very beginning that you are part of a cosmic "accident" billions of years ago, and that you are part of the problem.  God was taken out of your equation early, and by the time that you grew up, you desperately sought the truth through other man made philosophies and religions that were more concerned about your "feelings" or your money than they were about the truth.  Meanwhile the stress, confusion, and anger builds and builds until.......  What?

Step 1: Pull off the road, you are lost.  Stop.  Breathe.  Do nothing.  Concentrate on nothing but the beating of your heart.

Step 2: Ask God to help you find your way back home.  It is irrelevant at this point why you got lost, so don't dwell on it.  What is important is getting back on the right road. Try this prayer to God:  "Dear God, I have been lost for a long time, and I need to get my life on track.  I'm sorry I took control from You and messed up.  I'm sorry that I have sinned against you and your holy name.  I know I cannot save myself and need you.  Please take control back, and save me.  I don't know what You have planned for me, but with You in control, I know my life will be what it was designed to be, and very fulfilling.  In Jesus' name I ask that you come into my heart, and create a new person,  filled with more of You and less of me.  Amen."

If you were sincere with those words, and said them from the heart, you are now a child of God, and are back on the right road. Let God take control and guide you back home. Once you are comfortable with the idea of letting God take over, proceed to the next roadblock people often encounter on life's highway.
